Qualities that Mrs. Centeno demonstrates in "Tuesday Siesta" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Centeno demonstrates such qualities as determination, self-possession, and honour. First of all, Mrs. Centeno is a strongly determined person. She makes an impression of a woman, who plans everything well before. For example, the fact that she comes to the town exactly “at that hour, weighted down by drowsiness, the town was taking a siesta” shows her aim to avoid the public (Marquez 372). In addition, the way how “unhesitatingly” she speaks and replies to all priest’s question expresses the strength of her mind (Marquez 374). She knows exactly why she is here and what she needs to accomplish. She has a mission and is not going to leave until she has done that. Hence, even there is so hot outside, Mrs. Centeno cannot “have waited until the sun went down” (Marquez 373).
