This essay will examine how the British Television coverage the credit crunch from the perspective of the BBC channel, documentary programmes on Channel 4 and the property programmes on Channel 5. The BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) operates from quite a complex and idealistic premise. This idealism is incorporated in a Royal Charter: To educate, inform and entertain the largest audience possible. The BBC also states that it believes in fairness and accuracy and says that high editorial standards and truth are very important to the corporation. But the BBC’s claim to high editorial standards have been called into question in the past, and some people are calling them into question currently, due to the BBC’s broadcasting of the country’s financial crisis. The BBC has been accused of pandering to the Government by avoiding the word “recession” in favour of ministers’ preferred term “the downturn” (www. telegraph. co. uk). Another of the BBC’s claims, many are arguing have not been in evidence during the reporting of the credit crisis, is unbiased providing of information.
