I knew my life would change drastically. As I looked around at those four cold hospital walls, I was overwhelmed with the thought of never leaving the hospital. It was not until October 9, 2008, that I decided to overcome my fate. If I had not pushed myself to walk, then I would not be the person I am today. Reflecting back to the day I was injured, rushing into the emergency room, all I could think about was not competing at color guard anymore. My last worry was the possibility of never walking again. Finally talking to the doctor and seeing my x-ray, I understood just how badly I was hurt. I had completely crushed my ankle, cracked both bones, and suffered intense nerve damage from the knee down. Adding to the injury was third degree burns. At first I decided becoming motivated about walking was not a goal I could reach.
