Music muse What is music? Music is certainly not something that makes you sick, even though the word sounds like it should. It can be said unfortunately that there is plenty of ‘music(k)’ around these days. The majority of what we hear today is a remix of sorts, the sort that get you sick especially when compared to their originals. There is nothing wrong with an ‘original’ cover. A true cover is an artist’s impression of a piece that may have meant a lot to him or her in the past; a kind of ‘thank you for the music’ to the original. Poor remixes are poor covers. I would cringe at hearing my work being twisted into some ‘this-thing-that-thing, this-thing-that-thing’ (say it fast) sounds of techno monotony. This is why I don’t understand how some of the old-time greats are so quiet about their work being mutilated. Money for nothing maybe?
