. And in 1923, he received a Nobel Peace Prize which everyone knows to be a very honorable award . During World War I, Millikan was Vice-Chairman of the National Research Council and he contributed a major part in developing anti-submarine and meteorological devices . Not many can say this but Robert Millikan held honorary doctor’s degrees at about twenty five universities and was either a member or an honorary member of many learned institutions in the United States and overseas . He has won so many awards for the advances he has made in science that it would take too long to name them all . But to name a few he has: been the recipient of the Comstock Prize of the National Academy of Sciences, the Edison Medal of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, and the Hughes Medal of the Royal Society of Great Britain . But what did Robert Andrew Millikan enjoy doing that didn’t involve science and physics ? He was a very dedicated and enthusiastic tennis player and also very much enjoyed playing golf in his free time . He was very dedicated to physics and the scientific research of investigating cosmic rays and atomic structure until as late as 1945 . He finally stepped away from scientific activity when he was seventy seven years old and he died on December 19th, 1953 .
