Personal Letter

Sadly, these off-time personal interests died down shortly after I entered university, as I was trying to manage my school courses I had to put this passion aside. However, it was at university where I found another form of attachment to the Chinese language. Since then I have been involved with Chinese teaching in a Saturday community school for the past three years. I started off as a class volunteer back when I was sixteen as it was a common thing for most people at my age to do, but I outlasted all of them. I volunteered for four consecutive years whereas many of my peers disappeared after a year or two. My persistence paid off a few years later as I entered my third year of university. The school offered me an opportunity to teach the grade four class for the next two years. Currently I am teaching a Chinese as second language class which geared towards students who are learning Chinese as their second language rather as a heritage language. For this class, I enjoy the opportunity of creating my own teaching materials and workbook which explains grammar and provides exercises lesson by lesson as the textbook that is provided by the school lacks in these components. I love teaching Chinese; not only do I feel the pride of spreading the culture and language, it also deepen and connects myself with my own culture.
