Lottery in California

Lottery in California Lotteries, of any sort, are the highest form of gambling in the United States. Most people believe that it is a quick and easy way to earn tons of money. However, what people may not know is that you have a higher chance at getting struck by lightning than actually winning the lottery. About one out of every three people in the United States thinks that winning the lottery is the only way to become financially secure in their life. This is a frightening statistic when you sit down and consider what the above odds really mean. Never the less I do not believe that the lottery should be banned in California. On the other hand I do believe that the lottery should be advertised differently and show how slim the chances of winning actually are. Critics have stated that “they believe it is wrong for states to encourage gambling” while supporters will say that it is a voluntary game (Pride & Ferrell, 1). I believe that it is a voluntary game and if people choose to spend their money in such a way, let them. The way the states encourage the lottery is by “mislead[ing] consumers about their chances of winning” (Pride & Ferrell, 1).
