The Tomb of Emperor Qin
” (Adams 12) The all part of the tomb of Emperor Qin still has not been excavated and the excavation of the tomb is still on now. Until now, what has been discovered from the tomb? Tomb of Emperor Qin contains approximately 7000 terracotta warriors, horse sculptures, and chariots. (Adams 12) Therefore the shapes and sizes of the terracotta warriors and the scale of the tomb can be defined using formalism and the value of the tomb can be defined using Marxism. In the tomb of Emperor Qin, the 7000 life-sized painted and human-shaped sculptures are called terracotta warriors, and they are “equipped with real chariots and bronze weapons. ” (Adams 12) And the terracotta warriors are carrying actual bronze weapons, and the individuals of them have each different-looking faces and gestures. And also, each of the sculptures have every potters’ modeling marks that are made at the back of the neck and in the fold of the scarf by their thumbs on each of the sculptures. (Adams 13) Therefore it shows the high level of the artistic achievement. The purpose of making them was to provide Emperor Qin with military bodyguards in the afterlife who desired to live forever. (Adams 12) “Around 700,000 people labored for fifteen years to build the Qin Emperor’s tomb complex.
