The Emancipation Proclamation enraged the south and caused many people who were against slavery to become very critical of Lincoln for not freeing the slaves in the border states. This proclamation also brought about a new goal for the North, to end slavery.

The proclamation eventually led to the thirteenth amendment, which stated, “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.” The Emancipation Proclamation also helped bring about the fourteenth amendment, which stated, “ All persons born or naturalized in the United States… are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. ... ” Lastly, Emancipation Proclamation influenced the fifteenth amendment that said that everyone, including good law-abiding freedmen, had the right to have a voice in the elections of its leaders. ... President Lincolns Emancipation Proclamation eventually abolished slavery and led to the strengthening of the Union and weakening of the Confederacy.
