Professional and Occupational Comparison 2
Teaching:
A Profession or an Occupation
When trying to compare two things, the answer lies in the eye of the beholder. ... Someone who has never wanted to be a teacher, or taken education classes, might call teaching, an occupation. What draws the fine line between an occupation and a profession? Many definitions or qualifications separate the two, but what defines ones personal career, a profession or occupation, is up to them. When I took at the field of teaching, I see it as a profession.
An occupation has been defined as “an action of being occupied, engaged in an employment, a task that occupies most of ones time…a means of passing time” (Webster’s Pocket Dictionary, 2000) I do not see teaching as any of those definitions.
