Andre the professional Lion Hunter
Taken from the Diary of Andre - the professional Lion Hunter 23/06/04 Dear Diary Today I read “What a Circus! Or We’re Going on a Fake Lion Hunt”, By A. ... And I have to say it really got me thinking about the circus lion hunt I gave Klaus. ... While I can justify all my actions from a Utilitarian point of view, I not keep a “deontological character” as was required by my Hunter’s Association and I did not hold the virtues required of a professional. But most importantly according to Gunn and Tudhope – who base their ideas on Robert Elliott’s article and following book: “Faking Nature” - I passed off a “Fake” lion as a “Real” lion and gave Klaus a totally inauthentic experience. ... I entertained him for days on end with interesting stories of other African experiences and at the end of the hunt – he became a successful lion killer. He returned to German with what he came for – a full body mount of an African Lion, shot by himself. ... And the lion itself was unfortunately a sad creature – he was old and would have died of natural causes – probably with a lot more suffering than a natural death. ... Also I cannot justify my actions using a virtue ethics perspective, as I did not show any virtue in my actions – shooting (or having shot) an innocent circus lion who was not acting in an aggressive way was an absolutely unvirtuous move on my part.
