Over the past few years, Abercrombie & Fitch (A&F), the store where President Teddy Roosevelt and Ernest Hemingway once bought their safari gear, and JFK bought his weekend look, has been under serious scrutiny. ... Abercrombie & Fitch, was filed on behalf of nine minority adults, including students and graduates of the University of California and Stanford, who were refused sales positions or terminated based on their race or ethnicity. ... Saenz, Vice President of Litigation for MALDEF says, “Through means both subtle and direct, Abercrombie has consistently reinforced to its store managers that they must recruit and maintain an overwhelmingly white workforce. ... ” Lu says she was fired after corporate officials visited the store, and according to her, didn’t like what they saw. Lu claims that an A&F corporate official had pointed to one of the large black-and-white posters that adorn the walls and told the management at the Costa Mesa store in which she was employed, “You need to have more staff that looks like this. ...
