One of the most fruitful moments of my professional career has been working for MITE, Agra in the accounts and finance department. I was entrusted with the responsibility of setting up the accounting system and the business network at the new Bombay office of the company. I was given the charge of leading a team of two accountants and three software programmers to the design the accounting and the reporting structure. The most challenging part of the entire project was to channel the efforts of the entire team and make the best use of the resources available to me. I faced no real problem during the groundwork. During the brainstorming sessions, we as a team, made a project plan and an outline of the requirements, which the system should be able to meet, and the reports that it should generate. The tough work began only once we started to design the system, explaining to the programmers the accounting aspects and coming to terms with the various programming limitations, called for a great amount of patience. One of the most important tasks that I performed as a leader was to effectively motivate and delegate the work to the team members and to create a work reporting and analyzing system.
