The planner’s code of ethics has four categories that we as planners need to adhere to. ... “A planner should contribute to the development of the profession by improving knowledge and techniques, making work relevant to solutions of community problems, and increasing public understanding of planning activities. ... ” (AICP Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct). ... One person that was a very influential person in the planning community and in the building of New York City into a city that the world looked up to was Robert Moses. ... He was involved in just about every aspect of the planning of New York. ... This stubbornness contributed to Robert Moses losing sight at times his obligation to the public in New York City which at the time was probably not as important as in today’s planning world. ... As you can see this in itself is a practice that would be conceived as highly unethical in today’s planning sector, but back then it was how you became powerful. ... Moses was now the construction co-coordinator and planning commissioner for New York City. ... It also shows that as a planner you need to uphold these ethics to be able to function in the planning world and that the public is a major voice in deciding all of the planning issues that come your way when you are in our profession.
