Ben Franklin was an American printer, author, diplomat, philosopher, and scientist whose contributions to the American Revolution rank him among the countrys greatest statesmen. Ben Franklin was born on January 17, 1706 in Boston to his father Josiah Franklin, and his mother Abiah Folger. Franklin went to grammar school from age eight to ten. ... Ben loved to read and had himself apprenticed to his brother James, who was a printer. When Ben was twelve he sold his brothers products in the streets. Later, James was thrown in jail for his views, and Ben was left to run the paper for several issues. When James was let out he was not grateful to Ben for keeping the papers going. ... Ben could not take it and ran away in 1723. ... Ben couldnt find work so he walked across New Jersey and finally arrived in philadelphia.
