In The Truman Show, the role of Christof, played by Ed Harris, is as Truman’s creator, saviour, father figure and the producer and mastermind of the show. He created Truman and controlled him in a way that he believed was perfect. One thing that he was unable to control was Truman’s thoughts, emotions and determination to discover the truth. These contributed to change Truman from the way Christof had planned on creating Truman.
The first part of Christof’s role in the film is as the creator of the entire Truman Show concept. ... He is a ‘God’ who arranges, controls and programmes every aspect of Truman’s life. Christof creates the entire living and working environment for Truman to live in and controls everything except Truman’s thoughts. Truman reminds Christof of this when he says at the end of the movie, “You never had a camera in my brain.
