How does Mike Leigh convey the message that secrets can imprison while the truth is liberating?
In the film Secrets and Lies, Leigh successfully conveys that secrets and lies are imprisoning, while the truth is liberating. Leigh illustrates this through several key characters, such as Hortense and Cynthia, who were trapped by lies. ... Through use of camera and general cinematography, Leigh is able to reveal how an average, working class family living in a low socio-economic area of London was able to deal with numerous secrets and lies that encompassed them.
