Compare The Language of Advertising of Educational Institutes It is a fact that different educational institute has a different attitude and quality. So the educational institution’s has a different ways of expressing their attitude, ways of study and qualities by advertising. The advertisers of tertiary institutes want to have more interested people who wants to study at tertiary level. My research was to compare the adverts of educational institutions. I concentrated on the adverts of popular universities and poly techs around New Zealand from various magazines and newspaper with many language technics. In my report I fully presented the similarities and differences between them by analysing the language techniques from six different advertisements. Some of the advertisements use similar types of language techniques. The advertisers of “Open Poly Tech” and “Otago University” used rhetorical questions at the top of the advertisements. “On Paper Or Online?” is a rhetorical question used in the “Open Poly Tech” advertisements. This asked the readers of this advertisement to think about their choices before enrol to in this poly tech. It is up to the reader if they want to choose the hard way of learning by using paper or easier way of learning by using a computer. “Too Much Choice at the Expo?” is also a rhetorical question used in the “Otago University” advertisement. By using this rhetorical question (“Too Much Choice at the Expo?”) also asked the readers of this advertisement to judge their opinion about the Careers Expo held around New Zealand in 2003. Both advertisements want to give something to think about by using a very simple rhetorical question at very start of the advertisement to grab attention to the reader of this particular advertisement easily. There are also some differences are noticed from both advertisements. An idea of communication exchanged by these rhetorical questions, they are different form each other.
