In 1954 Sam Sheppard was arrested and put on trial for the murder of his wife Marilyn Sheppard. ... Sheppard said that he heard his wife’s cries and went upstairs to see what was going on, he claimed that he was knocked on conscious my the assailant. Sheppard had a very speedy trial, was pronounced guilty of murder 2, and sentenced to the Ohio State Penitentiary for the rest of his nature life. ... Sheppard said, “I would like to say, sir, that I am not guilty and I feel there have been facts presented before this court that definitely have proven that I couldnt have performed this crime. ... Sam Sheppard to be the prime suspect in the case. There were many things that basically ruined Sheppard’s first trial, proper due process rights were not ignored simply over looked. The Constitution of the United State, states that every man has the right to a trial by jury, Sheppard was given this right but it was blotted out by Sheppard’s virtual trial by the press that butchered his case. ... And before the jury was even chosen the newspapers in Cleveland were already saying that Sheppard was guilty of the murder and a trial had not even been started yet. ... Sheppard’s original defense was made may mistakes leading to steps were not taken in this trial that by law could have helped prove Sheppard’s innocence from the beginning for instance all of the evidence was not brought for during the trial.
