Throughout Shakespeare’s Hamlet, the title bearing character of Prince Hamlet displays many faces, showing the audience a vivid cross section of his nature. Horatio sums up Hamlet’s fundamental characteristics with his line “Now cracks a noble heart. ... ” Hamlet’s murders stem from noble ground, his indecision from noble thoughts, and his ‘insanity’ from noble reasons. Hamlet is essentially the good, noble man that Horatio’s brief eulogy affirms him to be; even though sometimes this appears hazily to the audience. The primary plot line running through the play is that of Hamlet’s set task of avenging his father’s death, through murdering Claudius. All other actions of his aside, Hamlet can already be seen as noble and loyal to his father, the past King of Denmark, by simply agreeing and beginning to undertake the act of this revenge.
