I choose to watch the films Windhorse and Kundun. Kundun told the life story of the fourteenth Dalai Lama from the age of two to his teenage years when the Chinese invasion forced him to flee. Windhorse then picks up the story in modern time Tibet, still oppressed by China. I began by first watching Kundun. This film focused on the life of the Dalai Lama and the beginning of the Chinese invasion. When the Dalai Lama was just barely a teenager, he had to decide what to do when his country was facing war, as China was trying to take over Tibet. The Dalai Lama refused to become part of China, but being a peacefully person, also refused to fight back. The monks had felt that they “should not be interested in politics” and that in the end, the “gods will win and the devils with lose.” Even so, the Dalai Lama is considered to be the leader of Tibet and the Tibetan people; therefore, even though his is a religious man, his position is also political.
