Although not expected, literacy is greatly taught by media groups in society away from the typical classroom where everyone it is accustom to finding it. There are a variety of interpretations and visuals that are seen, heard and presented on an everyday basis from the media to people, and in affect, they are translated into our own vocabulary language. I use the media all the time to understand life situations because it presents and easier and more comfortable way to learn anything. If presented through a method that which I enjoy and want to interpret into my own personality, then it’s something I will learn about. Radio has been one aspect I’ve acquired literacy through. The lyrics from the songs can contain important poetical, political, emotional, societal, etc. meanings and are expressed freely within the songs. It causes me to interpret what I hear from them to my own personality. Music is used partly to express and share emotion to all the listeners, and when I am shared those, I want to make it a part of my personality and spread the same idea in an everyday basis. Not so much a certain song has done this for me, but certain genres, in general, all provide the same meanings for me to hear. Punk, Emo, and Country are all based around the general concept of a man’s love for a woman, or the love that used to exist. If listened carefully and closely, then each song is, in fact, not the same. They’re all different stories about shared memories and emotions that were experienced in the relationship of the two lovers.
