“The Odyssey” written by Homer describes Odysseus’s journey. Before “The Odyssey” there was a book called “The lliad” which describes the Trojan War. The Trojan War happened because of Helen, the Spartan princess, ran away with Paris, the Trojan prince. Homer explains this in “The Odyssey”. When the Greeks declared the war, Odysseus was a young man living in Ithaca who just got married with Penelope and had one child. When the messenger came to take him, he pretends like a mad man sowing salt in the fields of Ithaca. When the messenger realizes that Odysseus is pretending, he puts Odysseus child Telemachus in front of a plough. Odysseus rescues him and goes to war, thus beginning his journey. In the war, Greeks made a wooden horse, which the Trojans had brought to their city. At night, the Greeks hid in the horse opened the gates of Troy and destroyed every thing. After the war, Odysseus sets off from the Troy to his motherland Ithaca. It takes Odysseus 20 years to return home. During these years, Odysseus son Telemachus has grown up to search for his lost father. When Odysseus starts for Ithaca, Zeus, who is angry with him, raises the north wind, blows Odysseus ship off course and sets them on the island of Lotus-Eaters. There Odysseus’s men ate the lotus flower that made them lazy.
