Bob Herbert’s article, “Secrecy is Our Enemy,” reflects a Federalist view on the government’s behavior during recent deportation hearings. ... This type of secrecy causes the people to not trust the government. If the secrecy of these hearings is so important, then, like several judges stated, the Bush administration should explain with every case why it needs to be kept behind closed doors; for a government run on lies is no government at all.
