By 1999, Pierre was faced with an industry that sold 49,000 hoists each year. Pierre’s dominate sales were in the wheel alignment market, which totaled $8,251,000. The remaining sales, totaling $1,457,000, were purchased by firms specializing in general mechanical repairs. CAH’s competition is comprised of four Canadian and 12 U.S. firms. Of the 16 firms manufacturing lifts, two, AHV Lifts and Berne Manufacturing, accounted for 29,400 hoists sold. With a remaining market of 19,600 units, CAH only represented 5% of the units sold.
