Throughout the ages history has shown us that man (or woman) has experienced conflict against society ranging from the Quakers looking for a new world to keep their religion, to Rosa Parks sitting on a bus to defy the way society thought the should act. In James Baldwin’s “Sonny’s Blues,” the main character, Sonny, is a young man living a hard life in the streets of Harlem. Sonny could be described, by his family, as the good and sweet boy who just make a few wrong decisions in life. Sonny and his brother, who happens to be the narrator of the story, grew up with out their father. When their mother died, Sonny had to live with his brothers family until after he finished high school. While in high school he makes a few bad decisions and is the beginning of is conflict with society.
