While women have taken significant steps toward independence all over the world, patriarchal practices are continually dominant in China. ... Some of the examples they talked about were foot binding, arranged marriages, and the economic status of women in comparison with men. ... It all began as a sign of luxury amongst the wealthy; the women would become dependant on others. ... Eventually foot binding became a necessity of all women, because men refused to marry any woman with unbound feet, mothers forced their daughters to wrap their feet into “lotus blossoms. ...
