It is concerned with the roles, skills and functions of the general management team. The course is designed as a "capstone" course in business. It relies on the foundation of knowledge that students have acquired in functional business courses to enable a strategic approach to management. The focus of the course is on the application and integration of those skills combined with a structured approach to strategic management that enables the evaluation and implementation of strategic alternatives in business. CLASS PROCESS The course will consist of lectures, general discussion of pertinent topics, and the case study approach. A case study is basically an abbreviated version of an actual real life situation. The purpose of the case study approach is to develop the ability to analyze business and corporate situations and make decisions often with incomplete information. Specific details will be provided in class. COURSE MATERIALS Text: Required Hitt, Ireland, and Hoskisson, Strategic Management-Competitiveness and Globalization, 5th Edition-Concepts and Cases.
