A Doll’s House: Manipulative Prose In Ibsen’s A Doll’s House, he portrays Nora as a puppet to social distinction. The doll would represent a character with a meaningless life, a life with no goal of its own, manipulated into the goals of others. The original title, Dollhouse suggested all the characters, were dolls, or puppets to society; this title had a broader spectrum than the obvious doll. The name of the play was later changed to focus on the character Nora. A pillar in this Victorian Civilization is appearance. All of society accepts life at face value. Torvald, Nora’s husband, is a puppet to society. He has dedicated his life to presenting himself honorably to his peers.
