Emotional Product Positioning
In the interpretation and comparison of the beginning and end sequences of the film ‘Apocalypse Now’ directed by Francis Ford Coppola there begins to unfold a list of similarities with some differences. ... Yet the beginning and end symbolise two totally different meanings. The beginning sequence begins with images of the jungle with napalm bombs destroying the forest. ... The song ‘The End’ by The Doors gives a suggestion to us (as the audience) as to what Willard is feeling, because the song gives off an impression of death from the words ‘this is the end’. Showing that Willard feels as though life is at an end for him because he no longer has anything to live for, after coming home from war and divorcing his wife. ... The sequence continues with images of Willard struggling to live in his hotel room. ... This mission leads us to the ending sequence where Willard completes his mission and kills Kurtz with a machete, in his temple. ... Ending off this sequence we are shown a close up of Willard’s face (like that in the beginning sequence) blended in with a statue’s face, located in the jungle. ... The final image of Willard then dissolves to a black screen with the song ‘The End’ played in the background to highlight the end of the movie and the end of a segment in Willard’s life. Many similarities have been noticed in the beginning and ending sequences of the film such as the non-diegetic sound of the spinning fan and spinning sound of the helicopter propeller, which sound exactly the same.
