Enemy at the gates Early in the movie we are presented with a map of Europe. Germany coloured brown with a black swastika over it and the Soviet Union coloured red with a white hammer and sickle. The brown of Germany soon begins to creep over most of the map when they come across their last obstacle, Stalingrad. This film details the battle of Stalingrad in the autumn of 1942, which became a decisive turning point for the Second World War. The director manages to capture the horrors of close combat and exposes the viewer to the chaos and mayhem of battle. With the aid of excellent cinematography the movie began with brilliant portrayal of the event. Desperately Soviets threw all they had into the defence of Stalingrad, despite these times of shortages. “ The one with the rifle shoots! The one without follows him.
