What epistemological concern’s of Decartes are raised by the movie ‘The Matrix’?
Journal Entry by Rene Descartes, following his seeing the movie:
Dear log,
Upon my best friend’s reccomendation, I have just been to see the recent Wachowski Brothers’ movie “The Matrix”. I found it an excellent representation of my own epistemological concerns. ... They do not that they are under the control of the matrix because the false reality generated by it is so vivid. ... ”
Perhaps most prominent was the direct correlation between the matrix and my evil demon figure. The matrix is a villainous entity which projects a “world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth”. ... " It is also important to note that as I described the demon as distinctly separate from god, or any good, omnipotent, figure, so did the matrix. ... I should re-state that I found the Matrix an incredibly compelling movie, and it was almost as if the Wachowski brothers had read my writings before making the movie it.
