King Nothing
Differing Comedies Old comedy greatly contrasts the modern comedy of today. The sit-coms of the present show everyday people in common situations, while in an old comedy, a hero is put into an unrealistic, fantasy circumstance. The main point of a modern comedy is to bring pleasure to the audience. However, an old comedy cannot only do that, but also can be a satire on topics such as politics. Furthermore, a modern comedy often uses situations or behaviors as the humor. On the other hand, an old comedy uses some slap-stick humor and speech humor, for instance puns. Similar to modern comedies, old comedies, can also have differences between themselves. Although Acharnians and Clouds are written by the same author, Aristophanes, they have differences in characterization of hero, plot structure, and chorus. The two heroes of the plays, Dicaeopolis of Acharnians and Strepsiades of Clouds, are almost exact opposites.
