Motivation Motivation is the direction and intensity of one’s effort (Weinberg). Athletes are much more likely to stay motivated if they focus on participating for internal reasons rather than external. The first task would be to get the golfer to write down a list of goals, and continue to do it regularly, as it has been shown that motives change over time. Also emphasize the importance when the golfer reaches one of these goals while contributing feedback. Although the golfer is a professional, that doesn’t mean that practices and competitions shouldn’t be fun. Feedback and reinforcement will help create more goals and confidence, and therefore increasing the athletes motivation.
