Taking a Close Look at eChinaChem
Getting the Most out of a Consultant
I worked New Year’s Day this year. ... Minghua and Jiangtao moved back to Shanghai and launched eChinaChem in November while Yimin stayed in San Francisco and opened up a US office to work with US buyers and suppliers. I joined eChinaChem’s advisory board and kept in close touch.
In December we agreed that eChinaChem needed a new trading platform that was designed specifically for the needs of the international chemical trading community and that I was the person to help them build that. ...
And that is why I am busting my tail like this – if eChinaChem succeeds I get paid very well for three months of work. ...
The eChinaChem Model
eChinaChem is focused on companies that import and export chemicals from China. ... eChinaChem is different - actually more a Click and Mortar play. ... In China’s relationship based environment eChinaChem is getting the same results more cheaply by hiring experienced chemical traders who can bring their customers and suppliers with them. eChinaChem has also hired staff who know how to support transaction execution – how to deal with customs, logistics, insurance, and payment. Meanwhile, eChinaChem’s US based staff are already working with large US buyers to assess their purchasing needs. eChinaChem’s initial revenue will actually come from traditional off-line trading that does not even use the Internet.
So eChinaChem is a lot more than a match maker. What eChinaChem’s founders are actually building is an Internet enabled trading company that intends to get margins and commissions that are lower than those of existing trading companies but still far higher a match maker’s.
More Risk More Reward
eChinaChem brings together buyers and suppliers of chemicals from inside and outside of China on an Internet based bidding and negotiation platform.
