Apoptosis, or programmed cell death, occurs when various environmental or toxic stresses are introduced in a cell. Each organelle within a cell behaves in a unique and collaborative manner in conjunction with one another to detect such signals and execute apoptosis when necessary. The caspase family (1-14) is a group of cysteine-dependent, asparatat-specific proteases essential in many apoptotic pathways. The fourteen caspases can be specifically located in organelles or ubiquitous in all cells. Only elected a year and half ago, Gray Davis now faces the possibility of being disposed of his position as governor of California by a menagerie of candidates, including a midget, porn-star, adult magazine entrepreneur, and Arnold ˇ§the Terminatorˇ¨ Schwarzenegger. In the few short years after his election, Gray Davis has inconceivable left his office with a whopping $38 billion dollar deficit, naturally leaving many voters unsatisfied and impatient for a change.
