With more than 75% of all Internet traffic traveling through Cisco products, and with one billion people projected on the Internet by 2005, the importance of an integrated IT architecture at Cisco was never more important.
Cisco’s existing IT infrastructure of router switches was set up as a traditional department, viewed as a cost center that reported through the finance department but was too internally oriented. The contribution of the current IT infrastructure was insufficient and the current system could not support Cisco’s growth nor meet management’s expectations.
