On August 6 and 9, 1945, the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were destroyed by President Truman and the Atomic Bomb
Truman’s decision to drop the newly created atomic bomb. The atomic bomb was a completely new form of weaponry used in a war. ... There is no question that the bomb worked. After the massive amounts of destruction created by the bomb, the Japanese had no choice but to surrender. Truman had a difficult decision to make that fateful day in August 1945. ... The decision Truman made to drop the bomb was immoral, however morality should not and rarely does play a role in war.
Although Truman was not fully aware of the extent of damage the bomb could possibly cause when actually used in war, he knew that it was a weapon of mass destruction. ... One may argue that he did not know that it would cause as much damage, but even after the first bomb was dropped, a second drop was dropped over Nagasaki three short days later.
