The timeframe of The Books of Samuel is not certain, however, it is estimated to have been written around the 7th century B. ... Initially, The Books of Samuel were written as one book, but when it was translated to Greek it was divided into two books. The narrative opens with the birth of Samuel, his appointment to serve in the sanctuary and his call to the prophetic ministry.
