review on Animal Farm
... This bitter political satire that presents complex themes such as political dishonesty and corruption is Animal Farm, a literary masterpiece written by George Orwell in 1934. ... Jones, the administrator and proprietor of Manor Farm. One night, Jones returns home drunk enough to forget securing the farm buildings and marches straight to bed. While the lights were out and everything was calm in the farm house, the opposite was happening in the big barn; the animals had assembled to hear Old Major deliver a speech. Major described a dream about an animal “utopia”; he encouraged the animals to treat each other as comrades and talked about an upcoming rebellion. Days after, Old Major died peacefully in his sleep and by that time all the animals in Manor Farm were convinced that a rebellion would happen sooner or later. ... The beating made the animals grew furious and driven by rage they pushed the humans out of Manor Farm. ... Manor Farm was now named Animal Farm and after the pigs revealed they had learned how to write and read, a set of seven rules was printed on the wall of the barn, several rituals had taken place and “Beasts of England” could be heard all over the place. As time went on, the conditions of Animal Farm were perfect, or at least they seemed to be. Day by day the pigs seemed to gain authority over the rest of the animals who didn’t complain as they recognized the pigs were the cleverest of the farm animals. Within their authority, their privileges grew; it all began with simple things like extra food rations all the way to the point in which the pigs occupied the farm house. Snowball and Napoleon appeared to be the wisest of the pigs, and as it was to be supposed, they arose as the leaders of the pigs and the rest of the farm animals. ... During an assembly, a herd of furious dogs that was later discovered to be raised by Napoleon chased Snowball out of Animal Farm. Squealer, who was an advocate for the pigs, managed to influence the rest of the farm animals and made them believe Snowball was a criminal who was associated with Jones since the beginning of the rebellion. ... Napoleon had declared himself the leader of Animal Farm and was to be called by the rest of the animals “Leader Comrade Napoleon” and with the help of Squealer he made the animals believe he ideated the construction of a windmill.
