Bronwyn Donaghy's Unzipped - Everything teenagers want to know about love, sex and each other is an expository text which discusses the effects of teenage sex. Donaghy tries to scare us with her old fashioned ideologies regarding the topic. Donaghy does this by the use of language, facts and selection of detail, it reveals the attitudes and values that Donaghy is portraying. Language is a very powerful tool with which ideas values and attitudes can be conveyed through. But, it can also be used the other way around if the reader's beliefs and values don’t conform to that of the writer. In Unzipped Donaghy values and attitudes are that teenagers should not have casual sex, except when they are in a relationship. Amira in the text is described as having a 'face of eastern beauty' this is to gain the respect of the readers for Amira. Amira believes that sex before marriage is not good and that she is staying a virgin till she is married. She quotes ‘I want sex to be really special, with the right person.
