Soilless culture or hydropnics is a technology for growing plants in nutrient solutions with or without medis as a mechanical support. It is intensive, the principal advantages of hydroponics are high productivity, more efficient use of fertilzer and water, minimal use of land, protective of the environment and crop production where no suitable soil exists. The major disavantage is the high costs of capital and energy inputs compared to the conventional soil culture. There are many types of soilless culture systems, desighs of greenhouse structures and also methods of control of the environment, such as plant nutrition and adverse climate. Each system may be cost effective in particular crop and location. If the techniques of soilless culture in temperate regions can be used the tropics.
