There is a special Mitzvah to wash clothing before Yom Tov. - This is in order to honor Yom Tov by wearing freshly-laundered clothing. -You should be careful to do the laundering early enough so that it does not interfere with the rest of the pre-Yom Tov preparations. B.Hand washing, machine washing and/or dry cleaning are prohibited. -Even if the clothing is for use on the last day of Yom Tov it is prohibited. -Even if the person has only one article of clothing and it was washed before Yom Tov it still may not be cleaned. In this case it is better to buy new clothing and not launder this item. -This applies even if a non-Jew does it, even for free. C.Laundering babies' and children's clothing is permitted as follows: -You are allowed to wash infants' clothing in the normal manner. This applies only to those items that may be used on Chol HaMoed. This is true even if there is also a chance that they will be left over for after the Yom Tov. You can't add to the wash adult clothing, but some Poskim say that you can add infants' clothing that you need for right after Yom Tov. You can't leave unwashed clothing from before Yom Tov to wash on Chol HaMoed, even if you want to do them together with clothing dirtied on Yom Tov or Chol HaMoed. -You are also allowed to wash the clothing of small children since they always get themselves dirty. You should only do those articles that the child will need, but you can do an entire wash at one time. You are allowed to wash a garment for the child even if he has an alternate one, if the dirty garment is nicer or more suitable. D.Some Poskim say that kitchen towels, handkerchiefs and socks may be washed.
