The NSW State Courts
There are three levels in the general court hierarchy in NSW, Local Courts, the District Court and the Supreme Court.
· Local courts are the most generally accessed courts, providing court and registry services to the largest number of people of any court system in NSW. ... The Coroner’s Court and Children’s Courts are also part of the Local Courts System but they deal with special issues. ... It hears appeals from local courts and the judges of this court will also preside over many administrative & disciplinary tribunals. ...
Judges of the Supreme Court also make up the Court of Appeal and the Court of Criminal Appeal, which are the highest civil and criminal courts in the state. ...
The Federal Courts
The Federal or Commonwealth Courts of Australia are the “higher” courts of the country.
