hey dude
In Isabelle Leymarie's commentary, she explains to the reader music was once said to stop Alexander the Great from taking up arms and returned him to a "lilting harmony." This is one of the many examples that Leymarie uses to present the view that there is a direct correlation between music and violence. In "Tough Talk on Entertainment", several prominent people from different walks of life weighed in on the topic of violence in movies. In one instance, music critic Stanley Crouch says that while rap labels allow several racial terms against blacks to be used, it would not be allowed if derogatory were used against another religion, race, etc. The example that Crouch uses is that "constant pumping of hate filled images and inflammatory statements" used in the Third Reich. I believe that Leymarie's piece, and the statements found in "Tough Talk on Entertainment" make a very strong case.
