The Cone Gatherers
In “The Cone Gatherers” by Robin Jenkins, a dilemma is faced by
Duror, the game keeper of the estate. Duror’s dilemma is whether or not to
give into his desire to kill one of the cone gatherers and his reaction to this
desire gives a deeper understanding of the text as a whole.
The structure is important in conveying Duror’s dilemma as Duror’s
desire to kill Calum, one of the cone gatherer’s, emerges at the very
beginning of the novel in chapter one. ...
Since the cone gatheres moved onto the estate, Duror’s peace and
quiet has been disturbed. ... He blames the cone gatherers for disturbing
his place of safety and he now can not bring himself to touch the tree.
