As designers, it is imperative that we be familiar with the theory of aesthetics. Aesthetics is defined as one’s perception of beauty. In studying aesthetics, environmental elements that are considered works of art (architecture) are distinguished from those otherwise (mere buildings). Since it has been established that each individual differs in this perception, early artists have studied aesthetics in scientific terms. Since aesthetics is also the experience of what is pleasurable, it is a logical assumption that beauty is goes beyond what can be seen.
