There are several differences in how the character of Katrina Van Tassel has been treated between that of the narrative and the film version of the ‘Legend of Sleepy Hollow’. Although the visual description of Katrina from the narrative by Washington Irving is very similar to how actress Christina Ricci depicts the character in Tim Burton’s film (a “plump”, “ripe” and “rosy cheeked” young girl – pg 11), there are far more striking differences between the two portrayals in regards to their actions and the role that they play in both versions of the text.
