The poem “Daddy” written By Sylvia Plath is a portrayal of her family ties and how her hatred of her father has influenced her life and her literary works. Her strong feelings towards her father are sincere and very disturbing at the same time. Shortly after writing this poem, Sylvia committed suicide. Many of her references in this poem have been tied into her own personal life. She expresses this anger and hatred largely from her ex-husband, while she is mourning the loss of her father whom she never got to know well enough, as he died when she was still at a young age. Her father died when she was ten years old and she never fully recovered from her loss. She was never truly able to move on from this experience until her adult years.
