Andrew Healy September 14,2003 Lab2: Celestial Sphere Summary: We performed this lab to better understand the celestial sphere. The celestial sphere is a term used to describe what the stationary observer visualizes when he looks at the sky. Its appears that all the stars are rotating from east to west on a very large sphere. It appears this way because the earth is moving in the opposite direction. In this lab, we used a celestial globe that is a model of the celestial sphere. The celestial globe depicts the positions of the stars, constellations, and the sun at different dates and times. The globe pivots north and south and rotates from east to west. The times are calculated by the hour circles that are drawn from the North Pole to the South Pole.
